RACERS WILL TRY FOR NEW RECORDS
Automobile Drivers Will Seek to Establish New Marks on Speedway Monday.
SHORT DISTANCE EVENTS
Five Races From Five to Fifty Miles Scheduled on Program to Start at 3 p.m.
Des Moines will get some more thrills in the automobile speed line tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock when many of the automobile racing drivers who participated in Saturday's record breaking races on the speedway track will try for new records for the one mile speed way track.
Virtually every driver, with the exception of Eddie Rickenbacher, who leaves Des Moines today, will remain for the big events. Five races - five mile, ten mile, twenty mile, fifty mile and five mile consolation - will be held.
It will be the first attempt of the speed demons to establish records on the local track for the short distances. Report was current that an effort would be made to match DePalma with Mulford or Henderson, who finished second in the 150 mile sweepstakes, in a special short distance event. DePalma, in his eliminations, negotiated the speedway track at a 102 mile an hour clip.
As the original sweepstakes were scheduled for Monday, the drivers expect to remain over and have their cars at the track. Virtually the same arrangements that prevailed at Saturday's races will govern the racing meet Monday.
Popular prices of admission will be charged. The prices for tomorrow's races will be reduced to $1 for grandstand seats, including general admission, and $2 for box seats, including general admission. No extra charge for automobiles will be made.
The Des Moines Speedway company plans to hold its next big meet on Labor Day in September.
