Elimination trials for those entered in the speedway races tomorrow started today with G. Decker French, Iowa representative of the A.A.A. contest board in charge.
Lewis Clergy was the first to qualify with his Clergy special, making his qualifying mile in 44 4-5 seconds. Duke Royal with another Clergy and "Red" Shafer with his Chevrolet also qualified during the early morning trials.
Automobilists will find good roads to the speedway. Since the races last year twenty-five blocks of asphalt paving have been laid in Valley Junction and the road along Railroad street beyond the business section of the railroad town and leading to the speedway has been tiled, graded, graveled, two new concrete bridges put in and was dragged out today so that the roads are in excellent condition.
