WAGNER HERE FRIDAY.
Secretary Orloff of the Speedway association, conversed with Fred J. Wagner, official starter of the American Automobile association, who is in Chicago, and Wagner will arrive in Des Moines Friday to attend the final heats in the eliminations. He will be accompanied by W.C. Barnes, western representative of the American Automobile association.
The list of officials for the speedway meet are being rapidly completed. W.W. Sears of Des Moines will be referee. G. Decker French of Davenport, Iowa representative of the American Automobile association, will act in his official capacity. Mayor John MacVicar of Des Moines will be honorary referee.
A movement has been started to induce Mayor MacVicar to declare a half holiday for Saturday afternoon and to request the principal stores downtown to close early Saturday to permit their employees to attend the race. The fact that there are so many of the foremost drivers entered and that it is the only big event of the local racing season is pointed to by promoters of the movement.
Reservations of seats are now being made at the speedway offices at 505 Locust street. Speedway officials have been rushed with requests for grandstand seats and boxes and advise automobile fans to make their reservations as early as possible as a big crowd is expected at the gate.
