CHANDLER FIXED WITH TEAM FOR SPEEDWAY RACES

Intrepid Driver Believes He Will Be Able to Place One of His Crawford Cars Near Head of List.

Billy Chandler, the well known auto racer, arrived in town on Monday with his three Crawford special racing cars, and will be seen at the wheel of one of them on June 24 at the Speedway.

Auto fans will remember the bad spill Chandler took last year. While driving like a mad man to get his car up in the front he ran in the south turn wide open and his car got beyond control and turned over. Morris Keller was riding with Chandler at the time of the accident and was hurt so bad he died two hours later at Methodist hospital. Chandler was reported to be in a very critical condition, but with the best medical aid obtainable was soon able to leave the hospital and go to his home.

Chandler has with him Dave Lewis of Los Angeles, Cal. Lewis is well known on western tracks, and is looked upon by other drivers as a dangerous competitor. Incidentally, Lewis showed daring and gameness on several occasions in 1913 while on a campaign in the east, at which time he won twenty firsts out of thirty starts, and gained for himself a just reputation as being one of the most fearless drivers that ever piloted a racing car. Lewis will drive one of Chandler's Crawfords on June 24. The Crawford cars are good looking machines and have been well figured out regarding wind resistance, as this is one of the main factors to be taken care of in the building of race cars.
