LEWIS WINS IN FIFTY-MILE RACE AT SPEEDWAY
Dave Lewis driving his Crawford car won first place in the fifty-mile race at the Speedway, Monday afternoon before a crowd of about one thousand persons. Lewis made the distance in 34:08:59 or an average of about 90 miles per hour. Frank Galvin in the Sunbeam was second, Ralph Mulford in a Hudson third and Ira Vail in a Hudson fourth. Earl Cooper was prevented from entering the race when he broke a piston rod in a preliminary lap about the track and Hughie Hughes in the Devlin special was forced out of the race with a broken connecting rod on the forty-third lap.
Frank Galvin won first place in the 20-mile race with Lewis second and Mulford third. The three cars in this race were bunched all the way and at the finish there was not over six yards separating each car. Galvin's time was 13 minutes 2:45 seconds or an average of 92.2 miles per hour.
Galvin lead all the way in the ten-mile race and won with Lewis second and Mulford third in 6 minutes 20.16 seconds, an average of ninety miles per hour. Lewis won the five mile race with Mulford second and Vail third. Galvin was forced to stop near the close of this race on account of engine trouble.
