United States secret service officers may be called upon to investigate the theft of four speedway tickets sent to Boone, Iowa in the government mails. The matter was reported to speedway officials in Des Moines this morning by J.W. Costello, a conductor on the Ft. Dodge, Des Moines & Southern line. Whether the robbery will be reported to the federal authorities will not be known until the return of Mr. Botsford to the city.
According to Mr. Costello, four grandstand tickets were mailed from Omaha to himself, Richard Lane, Ed Shannon and William Prang, all conductors on the Ft. Dodge line. He is sure the tickets were received at Boone and were stolen there. Various conductors are being favored with "complimentaries" because they will be put to much additional work answering hundreds of inquiries regarding the big race.
Messrs. Botsford and Samuel Orloff departed last night for Omaha and are today conferring with A.A.A. officials. They also expected to bring back an official entry list.
