A sufficient number of entries for the big 300-mile auto derby which will formally open the new Des Moines speedway July 31, have been received to assure the lovers of the sport what will probably be the best field started over any track in 1915, excepting only Indianapolis.
Entries received and drivers who will start for the $10,000 purses are Barney Oldfield, Ralph DePalma, Bob Burman, Eddie O'Donnell, Joe Cooper, Tom Alley, Billy Chandler, E. Donaldson, A.F.Scott has entered both his cars, an Anderson Special and a Duchesnau, but has not nominated his drivers. Buddy Jones of Des Moines has also entered and will try out in the eliminations for a chance to start.
The field is by long odds the best that has been assembled since Decoration day. With Dara Resta it would be complete. Contrary to report, Resta is not entered here. Whether he will be or not will depend altogether upon the American Automobile association officials. Resta was suspended following the Omaha meeting for entering, shaowing at track with car and failing to start, and until he is reinstated his entry cannot be taken.
It is expected that the Oldfield and Duesenberg cars and probably the Cooper cars, will be in Des Moines July 23, to commence practice over the big board track.
