AUTO DRIVERS WILL SET TRACK RECORD FOR NEW SPEEDWAY

Declare They Will Demonstrate Speed of 90 Miles Per Hour Sustained at the Matinees Next Sunday.

The Speedway company, in addition to providing an amusement program at the curtain raiser Sunday at the new speedway track, expects to fulfill its contract with the Chamber of Commerce committee composed of C.L. Herring, Dean Schooler, N. Frankel and Geis Botsford. This contract contains a proviso that before the Chamber of Commerce pays over the $10,000 derived from sales of life membership tickets the track must show a sustained racing speed of at least ninety miles an hour.

Barney Oldfield, in addition to the five-mile race around the track with DeLoyd Thompson, is under contract to go three spurts mutually agreed upon, these not to exceed ten miles each for a track record of better than ninety miles. The speedway people have two cars to call upon in Oldfield's outfit - his Christy and a Fiat. But to be on the safe side they also have O'Donnell here to start his new Duesenberg 360 cubic inch displacement car. This car is to go a full 100 miles for the 100-mile record for mile tracks. Incidentally it will be timed for five, ten, twenty-five and fifty miles in the hopes of securing records. Sanction numbers are out for the drivers so that the records will be recognized by the American Automobile association and will become official.

DeLoyd Thompson's two flights doing loops, flying upside down and doing the tumble with his airship and three races for a mile, for five miles and for ten miles, participated in by seven motorcycle racers, will complete the program.

There will be no charges for this event beyond the gate. Parking spaces for autoists and grandstand, paddock and boxes will be free.

The Rock Island will run a train to the speedway leaving at 1:45 o'clock from its downtown station and will have return service after the program. The city railway will also run extra service to Valley Junction.
