With the entry by wire yesterday of one of the famous Mulford cars the number which will compete in the Des Moines Auto and Derby July 31 has reached thirteen. The car will be shipped from New York Tuesday and will arrive here ready for the elimination trials Thursday. A White special was also entered yesterday. The driver of this car will be named later. It is expected that the White will arrive next Tuesday. It has been at Sioux City since the races there July 3, where it is being given a thoro overhauling for the Des Moines event.
According to a long distance telephone message to the management here the Duesenberg cars are on the way and will be ready for tryouts on the track Saturday. The big Anderson special has already arrived and was seen on the streets of Des Moines yesterday.
There seems to be little doubt, the promoters say, that almost any speed desired may be possible on the Des Moines speedway. John Black, the advance man for Oldfield and Thompson, has been over the track and declares it is one of the best and fastest mile courses in the country. He states that he looks for Oldfield to make a complete new set of records at the big matinee Sunday.
Mr. Black is not so confident as to Thompson, who will perform in his aeroplane Sunday. The weather, it seems, means a lot to Thompson, but if it remains as nice as most of the present week has been there seems but little doubt of the number of "thrills" the people of Des Moines will be furnished Sunday.
