WORLD RECORDS BROKEN SAT.

Two new world records - that for four miles and also for five miles on a wooden track, were broken on the Des Moines Speedway Saturday. Both records were formerly held by Caleb Bragg, and were made on the Los Angeles track in 1912.

Bob Burman broke the four-mile record. He made the distance in 2:29.33 an average of 97.29 miles per hour. Bragg's average speed for the distance was about 94.73 miles per hour.

DePalma traveled five miles Saturday faster than that distance has ever been negotiated on a one-mile wooden track of the class of the Des Moines track. The official time for DePalma's five miles was 3:01.62 an average of about 98.1 miles per hour. This is better than three miles an hour faster than Bragg's time for the distance.

Six drivers yet remain to qualify for the race Saturday. They are Scott, (Anderson Special); Clark, (Firestone Columbus); Lombardi, (De Chesneau); Barndollar, (Clergy Special); Donaldson, (Mulford Special) and Henderson.
