An eastern woman is anxious to ascertain whether or not Joe Cooper, who was killed at the Des Moines Speedway races, is the same man who deserted her and her little daughter three years ago.
Coroner Koons today received a letter from Mrs. J.S. Cooper of Phillipsburg, N.J., in which she told of reading the death account in newspapers and asking for additional information. The communication follows:
Coroner of Polk County, Des Moines, Ia.: Would you kindly inform me if the Joe Cooper that was killed in the auto race on Saturday, Aug. 8, has a family in Iowa.
My husband deserted me and my daughter three years ago and as I heard thru a friend he was out in that direction and his aim was running an auto the faster the better and as the paper gave no account of his family, I was advised to write to the coroner for a little information.
Hoping to hear some word as soon as possible, I remain, MRS. J.S. COOPER, 23 Sitgreave St., Phillipsburg, New Jersey.
Coroner Koons, in reply, advised Mrs. Cooper that he hardly believed the Joe Cooper killed here was the one in whom she was interested. He informed her that so far as he had been able to learn, Joe Cooper had been a resident of Sebring, O., from boyhood and had a family at that place.
