SPEED KINGS TO BATTLE ON LOCAL COURSE JULY 31
Richenbacher, Resta, DePalma, Burman and Others to Race Here.
BY SAM ABRAMSON
Des Moines will have its auto racing season just like Indianapolis, Chicago and Omaha.
The kings of the track with their speedsters will be seen in action upon the new wooden mile track now in process of construction west of the city by the Des Moinesn Speedway company.
Dario Resta, winner of the Chicago race who smashed all records to smithereens. Ed Richenbacherwho stands out as the winning driver of the year by virtue of his victories at Omaha, Sioux City and Chicago, "Wild Bob" Burman, Barney Oldfield, Ralph Depalma, the intrepid Italian, all will compete in a speed meet of 300 miles for $10,000 in cash prizes and additional racing honors.
Entry Blanks Issued.
The entry blanks for the speedway meet on July 31 have been issued. Makers of machines are now entering their favorites and the fact that no other races have been sanctioned by the contest board of the American Automobile Association within two weeks of the local event, insures a galaxy of racing stars second only to the assemblage at Indianapolis.
Trials will be held on three days preceding the 300-mile race. But twelve contestants will drive after the elimination trials. Richenbacher in his Maxwell at Omaha, averaged more than 91 miles an hour in his first experience upon a wooden track. The Des Moines track is an exact duplicate of the Omaha speedway and Rick is expected to improve his performance.
Two Duesenbergs Entered
The Duesenberg cars will be well represented, the owners having entered two new Duesenberg racers just completed by the factory.
Work to complete the big track is being rushed. The speedway will be ready for practice by July 20.>
