BASEBALL VERSUS MOTOR RACING ON SATURDAY, AUG. 7
Boosters Decide to Make No Change - Big Auto Race Postponed
BY SAM ABRAMSON
The big 300-mile speedway race has been postponed from Saturday until August 7.
Baseball Boosters' day will be held on Saturday, August 7.
Despite the conflict, both baseball boosters and speedway officials maintain that they can pursue no other course.
It will be the first test of the drawing power of baseball as against automobile racing.
Work for the Ballyhoo.
On the one hand, the ballyhoo will yell "Right this way, gents, here is the great and only Commy, famous White Sox boss, and Ed Walsh, famous spitballist together with the incomparable Battlers and scrappy Tigers."
On the speedway, the ballyhoo will proclaim that "Ralph De Palma, the intrepid Italian, Eddie O'Donnell, king pin of western drivers, and a galaxy of racing stars, will compete in a 300-mile race."
And the sport fans will be the judges. They will have to choose between a real game of baseball and boosters' day celebration, and a 300-mile auto race in which well known racers will battle for honors.
Boosters Work Hard.
The baseball boosters have decided to continue their present boosting for boosters' day. They declare that change in their date is impossible owing to the fact that Lincoln comes for the last time on Saturday and Sunday. The boosters are none too well pleased with the attitude of the speedway officials. They have wired Frank Isbell, Battler boss, of their decision.
The speedway officials Friday expressed regret over the conflict, but claim that it was unavoidable. They assert that their contract binds the drivers only for the following Saturday and that they only have the A.A.A. sanction for that day.
