POLE ON TRACK GIVEN TO RACERS MAKING BEST SPEED

Every driver entered in the 300 mile speedway race desirous of "getting the pole.".

The "pole" is the lowest lane on the speedway track bounded by a white circle. It gives the driver having the "pole" a decided advantage especially in making curves and making spurts.

The coveted place is awarded to the driver making the greatest speed in elimination trials. Saturday, Ralph DePalma won the "pole" but as each driver is awarded three speed tests preliminary to the big race, racers who qualified will attempt to better their records to capture the "pole" if possible or be as near to the bottom lane as they can get. The drivers will be assigned to places from the "pole" upward in accordance with the speed they maintain.

Barndollar and Lombardi did not qualify Saturday. These with Mulford, Scott, Donoldson and Hendersonhave to go their first qualifying trial.
