BY HI HEK

Des Moines first 300-mile automobile race starts at 1:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon on the new wooden mile track, west of Valley Junction.

With $10,000 divided into nine prizes as the inducement, fourteen drivers will make a bid for new records on a mile track in an effort to capture the coveted prizes. Ralph DePalma, Joe Cooper, Eddie O'Donnell, Ralph Mulford and a string of lesser lights will describe circles around the track in Des Moines first big speedway meet.

A.A.A. Sanction Race.

The race will be held under the auspices of the American Automobile association and the records made, will be official. Indications point to several new world's marks as the racing pilots have displayed speed in their eliminations.

Ralph DePalma as holder of the "pole," the lowest lane on the track, will be the pace setter. DePalma ranked highest in the elimination trials while Joe Cooper who finished tenth in the last Indianapolis race and has shown ability to tease speed out of his own constructed Sebring Special, was next to DePalma in the starting line. Then came O'Donnell, Tom Alley, Chandler, Mulford, Shrunk, Brown, Scott, Henderson, Donaldson, Barndollar, Lombardi and Clarke.

Precaution Against Accidents.

Every precaution against accidents have been taken. A special ambulance will be at the track with physicians in readiness to give first aid. Special police will patrol the track to keep the crowds back out of danger.

Run Special Trains.

Special trains will be run by the Rock Island to the track. A round trip charge of 25 cents will be made. The first train will leave the Rock Island depot at 11:30 o'clock this morning and trains will be run thereafter at short intervals of fifteen minutes.
