MY BEST RACE SAYS DE PALMA
"Well, say, who won this race anyway --" That was DePalma's first reply to a question asked him by a News reporter after he had come in for the last time. Unofficially he had been announced winner and thus his anxieties were quieted. Then he said:
"Well I don't know anything to say except that it was one of the best races I was ever in. I didn't have the slightest bit of trouble with the exception of all that tire stuff eatlier in the race and this last blowout here. My motor never worked finer."
"It's too bad about Cooper, I knew him well. No, I don't think it was the fault of the track. I noticed nothing on the track that would have resulted in such an accident."
Then he turned to shake hands with Von Fountain his mechanician who was saying:
"Well, pardner, you haven't shaken hands with me yet. I'd kiss you if you weren't so dirty."
STATEMENTS OF WINNERS
Ralph DePalma: "Well, I don't know anything to say except that is one of the best races I was ever in."
Ralph Mulford: "If they don't award me first place, I'll never racer here again."
