RUMBLE OF RACE CAR AT SPEEDWAY
Forty-five miles of racing was to be the menu dished up for motor racing fans at Speedway park Tuesday afternoon. The matinee was to start at 2 o'clock.
The mile bowl was kept hot all morning, however, with half a score of drivers warming up and getting their high-powered cars i tune for the 20 mile Iowa race and the 10 mile Des Moines event. Half a dozen motorcycle drivers were testing out on the track.
Elimination trials Monday afternoon left six entrants surviving for the 20-mile Iowa event and five for the 10-mile Des Moines contest.
Lew Clergy with a Clergy special drew the pole for the first division. Duke Royal, his teammate was among those to qualify. Others who will compete in the big race are Red Shafer with a Chevrolet, Homer Stanley of Oskaloosa with a National, and J.A. Thompson with a Ford special.
