FIND MYSTERIES IN BEVETONE WHILE WATCHING AUTO RACES
About 3000 folk sat around in the sun for three hours at the speedway Tuesday afternoon and watered the young oats with soda pop and bevetone.
Occasionally an automobile or a motorcycle buzzed around the track. More infrequently more than one automobile went around the track at a time. Between times the autoists inside the big oval amused themselves by honking their horns in chorus.
There were four events, which were run in a total of about 40 minutes. Nevertheless it required close to three hours to stage them. The 20-mile all Iowa race was won by W.J. Barndollar in a Clergy. His time was 15:38 4-5. John A. Thompson in a ford was second, and Royal Duke in a Clergy Special was third. Only those cars finished.
Leo Leslie went 10 miles on a motorcycle in 8:25 3-5, winning. Ray Miller won the five-mile motorcycle event in 4:07 3-5. Lewis Clergy won the five-mile race for Des Moines owned autos in 8:25 3-5.
The afternoon was not entirely wasted. The watchers learned that by holding the thumb over the mouth of the bottle and shaking it, bevetone could be made to squirt.
