PETE HENDERSON FIRST TO ARRIVE FOR SPEED EVENT
Pete Henderson, Maxwell driver, was the first of 14 entrants to arrive for for the Des Moines speedway race on June 26. Henderson put in an appearance late Tuesday and Wednesday morning intended to get his car out and begin tuning up for the big 150-mile grind. Eddie Rickenbacker, formerly of Des Moines, was expected to arrive some time Wednesday.
Secretary Orloff of the speedway association announces that Rickenbacker, Mulford, DePalma and other drivers are going to try for a 25-mile record in the elimination trials which will be held Friday, Saturday and Sunday previous to the race.
In the meantime the drivers are expected to burn the board track daily and with all the great drivers of the country - with the probable exception of Resta - here, they should stage a record breaking event.
Negotiations are still under way with the intrepid Italian, however.
