DEPALMA SHOWS BEST IN FIRST ELIMINATION RUN

Seven drivers Wednesday participated in their first eliniation trial spins for the 150-mile speedway race Saturday. Ralph DePalma registered 98.5 miles an hour and Earl Cooper was clocked in time nearly as fast.

Others who drove their cars in the elimination spins were Dave Lewis, Billie Chandler, Eddie Rickenbacker, Pete Henderson and Charlie Devlin.

Eliminations will continue until Friday evening, the twelve cars registering the best time to compete in the finals Saturday at 1:30 p.m. Nineteen cars have been entered for the big race and virtually all of the drivers were in the city Thursday morning. Friday will be the big day in the eliminations.

Saturday afternoon may be declared a half holiday by the city authorities in order to give more persons a chance of seeing the races. Mayor MacVicar has been appointed honorary referee and will be prominent among state, county and city officials who will be guests at the Speedway Saturday.
