DE PALMA TO TRY FOR OTHER SPEED MARKS WEDNESDAY

Ralph De Palma will be the feature at the elimination runs at the Speedway tomorrow afternoon, according to Geis Botsford. The racing driveris quoted as saying that he will go out after all the records up to ten miles, and that he feels confident of making some new world's marks.

"In the run Saturday when I made a new record for five miles I did not do all I could have done," De Palma said, "but I am willing to try again and on Wednesday I am going out for another exhibition spin. In that spin I am going to take Bob Burman's record for four miles, which he made Saturday, away from him and incidentally I am sure I can establish for the track, for anything than a two-mile speedway, records for every mile from one up to ten miles. At least I am going to try it, and if I have my machine and the character of the track sized up right I can do it."

"Contrary to the general impression," says Botsford, "De Palma is not a professional racing man, though the winner at Indianapolis twice, twice winner in one day of the Elgin light and heavy car races for two consecutive years, the present holder of the road race championship and of the five mile record.

"De Palma is on the payroll of the Packard Automobile company of Detroit. His real occupation is technical and consulting engineer for that company. Race driving is a diversion with him indulged in more for an outing than for money. There isn't much money in racing after the expenses are deducted."
