WORK BEING RUSHED AT LOCAL SPEEDWAY
With John Prince's workmen laboring fevorishly to complete surfacing of the Des Moines Speedway by tomorrow night, and with the management of the Speedway in downtown offices dilligently selling tickets for the 300-mile speed derby, the final events of the largest amusement enterprise the Chamber of Commerce has brought to Des Moines are at hand.
This is a week in which a lot of jobs are finished. The entry list will be completed, the track will be finished, the big grandstand will be built, and on Thursday or Friday the roar of the first racing motor on the track that is expected will hold most of the world's records in its class this year will be heard.
Four racing cars and four drivers, the advance guard of the speed maniacs that will be in Des Moines for more than a week, are expected to arrive on Thursday. These will be Duesenberg's three cars and Joe Cooper's Sebring, all shipped from St. Paul. Duesenberg's drivers will be O'Donnell, Alley and Chandler. The four cars will participate in the matinee event on July 25, in which Barney Oldfield will be the star attraction.
