CREAM OF DRIVERS LISTED FOR LOCAL SPEEDWAY EVENT

Des Moines is assured of a better list of entries for the speed derby here July 31, than have appeared at Sioux City, Omaha or at any other track outside of Chicago and Indianapolis this year. Geis Botsford, secretary of the Chamber of Commerce, returned from Omaha this morning with a partial list of the entries, after having conferred with racing drivers or their managers there yesterday. The following drivers have signed up:

Barney Oldfield
Ralph DePalma
Tom Alley
Billy Chandler
E. Donaldson
Bob Burman
Eddie O'Donnell
Joe Cooper
A.F. Scott

This entry list would contain every driver of importance who participated in the Indianapolis race this year, if Dario Resta, winner at Chicago, and Rickenbacker were on it. Resta now is under suspension by the contest board of the American Automobile association, and he can be secured for the Des Moines event if the suspension is revoked in time. The board's action was due to the fact that he failed to start at the Omaha races.

Rickenbacker, who is at the lead of the Maxwell team this year, probably will not be here unless he leaves the Maxwell company's employ. Their machines will not appear on the Des Moines track.

DePalma was the winner of the Indianapolis race, and Oldfield, the real dean of racing drivers, recently since a track and world's record for two miles at the Chicago speedway. O'Donnell and Alley are members of the Duesenberg team. Scott has entered two cars, an Anderson Special and a Deschnau. Buddy Jones, a Des Moines driver, also has entered and will try in the preliminaries for a chance to start in the big race.

Oldfield, the three Duesenberg cars and Cooper, probably will start practicing on the Des Moines track July 23.
