FAST PUTTING LAST TOUCHES ON TRACK
Arrangements Made for Directing Auto Parties to Place Among Final Details.
Eddie O'Donnell, head of the Duesenberg team of auto racers, which will participate in the matinee event at the Speedway Sunday and later in the 300-mile race, arrived in Des Moines this morning. O'Donnell is scheduled to try for the world's 100-mile record on Sunday. He is the second of the racers who will participate in the big race to arrive in Des Moines.
The three Duesenberg cars that will be here are expected to arrive this afternoon or tomorrow morning, and the racing and air thrill equipment of Barney Oldfield and DeLoyd Thompson will arrive some time tomorrow, the other two Duesenberg drivers are expected to be here then, and Joe Cooper and his car will be on the job tomorrow afternoon.
Finishing the Speedway.
Finishing touches are rapidly being put on the Speedway. Surfacing of the track was practically completed yesterday, and it is expected the safety rail consisting, of big timbers and sixty pound railroad iron clear around the outer edge of the track, will be entirely in place early tomorrow morning. The grand stand has been practically completed, and the subway is being finished. Rolling and smoothing of the fifty-foot safety zone, remains to be done, and a portion of the safety apron, which connects the inner edge of the track with the safety zone has not been finished. John Prince expects to have the Speedway in complete readiness in time for the races Sunday, however.
Two More Entrants.
Two more entrants for the 300 mile race were announced by the Speedway company today. These are Ira Vail of Brooklyn, who will drive a Mulford special, and a driver not yet named who will drive an O'Connell Special.
Arrangements for directing auto parties over the good road to the track were perfected this morning. Guards will be placed at all turns and intersections to direct autoists, and small American flags also will mark the right highway to take.
The speedway company ruled this morning that tops of all autos parked inside the track must be down before the cars will be allowed to pass through the subway.
