SPEEDWAY WORK IS STARTED TODAY WITH CEREMONIES
John L. Prince, speedway builder, planned to start work on the Des Moines speedway this afternoon, following ceremonies at the site of the proposed track in in which state, city and Chamber of Commerce officials were to drive the first stakes of a circle of them that will mark the outlines of the track.
Mr. Prince expects to push the construction work as rapidly as possible, so that everything can be completed by July 25, when Barney Oldfield will drive a five-mile test race, to confirm the contract with the Chamber of Commerce that the track must admit of a speed of ninety miles an hour. On this day Oldfield will drive a ten-mile race with DeLoyd Thompson in an aeroplane.
The first big race meet on the new track will occur July 31.
