SPEEDWAY RACERS ARRIVE IN CITY FOR BIG EVENT

The first of the speedway racers has arrived in Des Moines. A.F. Scott, who has entered an Anderson Special and a Deschnau in the Speed derby, and James H. Combs, the mechanic, arrived this morning from Sioux City. The Anderson will be here tomorrow or Friday. The Speedway management does not know whether Scott's machine will participate in the matinee event next Sunday.

A letter received from Fred Deusenberg this morning stated that the Deusenberg cars will be shipped so as to arrive here Friday or Saturday morning. These cars will participate in the matinee, competing with Barney Oldfield in time trials for new board track records.

It was announced today that Rock Island shuttle train service to the Speedway will be available for the event on Sunday. Trains will start running at 1:30 o'clock and the first train will be ten cars long.

Surfacing of the track has been completed except for the gap through which materials have been hauled. Lumber to fill this gap will arrive this afternoon and the track now can be completed with but four hours' work. Considerable of the grandstand now is built.
